Nazar

Have you ever heard of nazar bonju? This is a type of amulet from Turkey.

It seems that nazar means evil eye and bonju is  a charm like an eyeball. In Turkey, it was believed that evil spirits would cling to people and cause harm.

Also, it is said that you get sick if you receive a jealous look, so it is an amulet for not getting sick. In order to escape these disasters,  it protects the wearer by looking straight back at anyone giving the evil eye. Nazar Bonju seems to be popular with overseas celebrities, actresses, models and so on. It is a kind of superstition that has become a trend.

The eye the story of the Greek myths of Medusa was transmitted to Turkey and originated as a guardian god. It is said that Medusa is a monster of Greek myth and is serious. There is a legend that if you stare at Medusa you will turn to stone. Medusa turns everything that looks at her into stone. The horrible facial features and the power to change the viewer into a stone has a power of trouble, Medusa seems to be considered a guardian deity of justice in old society.

My impressions

I was a little scared when I first saw this amulet. And when listening to this story I heard that it is an amulet that protects from the evil of envious people, I thought  people don't care about envy so much in Japan.  But this is also an amulet for not getting sick, so I thought that the people in Turkey are very thinking of family members they are not all but who are wearing it.
